Cleaning Up the Air in California

Read current information about the Foundation's work on environmental issues.

As a child growing up in Los Angeles, I vividly remember many days when the smog was so bad that you could not breathe without pain. Since then, while we've made great strides to clean up the air in California, the facts remain:

  • California has the worst air pollution in the country: over 90% of us live in areas that violate both state and local clean air guidelines.
  • California remains the only state in the union that is authorized by the federal government to pass its own environmental legislation.

We cannot just continue to conduct "business as usual" hoping that our air will get better. We've tried that for over 30 years. I think it's time for a change.
